What we are here to do

Life can get loud. Given the current political and social climate, Woody’s Weird World believes more people need a break from the noise and a chance to experience the outdoors. Nature gives us space to slow down, clear our minds, and focus on what matters.

The trail can challenge us, bring us together, and remind us of what we share. You do not need to be a professional athlete or an experienced backpacker to get outside. You only need somewhere to start and the will to take the next step.

Woody’s Weird World hopes to encourage:

  • Veterans adjusting to life after military service

  • People living with disabilities or physical limits

  • Older adults interested in hiking

  • Families looking for shared adventures

  • Beginners who may not know where to start

  • Anyone who needs a reason to get outside

The outdoors should feel welcoming to people of every background, identity, age, and ability. Through honest stories, practical advice, and real trail experiences, Woody’s Weird World aims to show that adventure is possible for ordinary people.

Whether you are planning a long-distance hike, taking your first walk in nature, or searching for your next challenge, there is a place for you here. Every adventure starts the same way—with one step forward.

Meet Woody

I’m Woody, the founder of Woody’s Weird World and a U.S. Air Force veteran. During my eight and a half years in the military, my ability to travel and explore was often limited by assignments, deployments, and the needs of the service. After leaving the Air Force in January 2025, I became ready to see more of the world—both along the beaten path and down the road less traveled.

My love for the outdoors began during a trip through the Pacific Northwest in 2018, shortly before one of my deployments. During that trip, I summited Mount St. Helens and discovered how rewarding it felt to challenge myself in the wilderness. That experience sparked my interest in hiking, travel, and the idea of completing long-distance thru-hikes.

After leaving the military, I focused on finishing my education and earned my bachelor’s degree in history in 2026. Now I am ready to use that same drive to explore the wilderness, learn about new places, and experience more of the world. I have some big plans ahead, and I want to share the full journey—the planning, gear, challenges, mistakes, and victories—with everyone who follows along.

Woody’s Weird World is proudly LGBTQ+ friendly, veteran friendly, environmentally conscious, and open to people of every background and ability. I support cottage gear makers, small businesses, and mom-and-pop brands that put care into what they make. My goal is to share honest experiences, support good people doing good work, and encourage others to begin adventures of their own.
